Directions and Parking

The Princeton University Chapel is located on campus, on Chapel Drive. Because the building is on campus and is not directly accessible via a main road, there is no street address to enter into a GPS. Rather, we advise guests to drive to the intersection of Nassau Street and Washington Road, find suitable parking, and then walk over to the Chapel.

Driving Directions

From the NORTH/NEW YORK CITY
Take the New Jersey Turnpike south to Exit 9 (New Brunswick). After the toll booths, take the first right turn onto the ramp for Route 18 north. Soon after you enter Route 18, take the left side of a fork in the road, staying in the right lane. Immediately bear right for an exit to U.S. Route 1 south/Trenton. Drive south on Route 1 for about 16 miles to the Washington Road exit, which is a traffic circle. Take the first right off the circle toward Princeton. Continue approximately a mile straight ahead, down Washington Road, to arrive at the intersection of Washington Road and Nassau Street.

From the WEST
Drive east on Interstate 78 into New Jersey. Exit onto southbound Interstate 287 (toward Somerville). Follow signs for Routes 202/206 south. Drive south on 202 for a short distance and then follow signs to 206 south, which will take you around a traffic circle. Go south on 206 for about 18 miles to Nassau Street (Route 27) in the center of Princeton. Turn left onto Nassau Street, and follow it to the third traffic light. Turn right onto Washington Road.

From the SOUTH
If you are coming from southern New Jersey, we recommend that you take Interstate 295 north (instead of the New Jersey Turnpike). Take Exit 67 to Route 1 north. Travel about three miles north on Route 1 to the Washington Road exit, which is a traffic circle. Go three quarters of the way around the circle and turn right toward Princeton. Continue approximately a mile straight ahead, down Washington Road, to arrive at the intersection of Washington Road and Nassau Street.

From the EAST
Take Interstate 195 west (toward Trenton) to the exit for Interstate 295 north. Drive seven miles to the exit for Route 1 north (exit 67). Travel about three miles north on Route 1 to the Washington Road exit, which is a traffic circle. Go three quarters of the way around the circle and turn right toward Princeton.Continue approximately a mile straight ahead, down Washington Road, to arrive at the intersection of Washington Road and Nassau Street.

From the PHILADELPHIA AREA
Take Interstate 95 north into New Jersey and exit at Route 1 north (exit 67).

Parking

Although the university’s main visitor parking lot (Lot 23) is available to you, we strongly recommend that you park closer to the Chapel. The visitor parking lot is a 15 minute walk (through campus) to the Chapel, and free shuttle service is available but infrequent. More information about Lot 23 can be found here.

Better options may be Lot 10 and 13 (both located on William Street, which is off of Washington Road, immediately after Nassau Street) or Lot 14 (located on Ivy Lane, which is off of Washington Road before Prospect Avenue). On weekends, these parking lots are free and open to the community on a first-come-first-served basis. Spaces are limited, however.

In addition, many guests find it more convenient to find street parking along Nassau Street, or to use a local parking garage. We recommend the Municipal Parking Garage on Spring Street. Find out more information about it here.

The Chapel is a short walk from the parking lots and street or garage parking on Nassau Street, and can be accessed by coming on to campus via the intersection of Nassau Street and Washington Road, or the small entrance on Nassau Street across the street from the Labyrinth Bookstore and Duke and Diesel restaurant.
